How I Earned Six Figures in My First Year of Blogging
A new way to monetize your blog!
Someone making a lot of money through blogging is a rare occurrence. I only started taking blogging for money seriously a little over two years ago. In December 2019, I launched my first personal finance blog. After that, it started to grow. I earned six figures from blogging in my first year of doing it. Even though my monthly income has considerably diminished, I am still in awe of how much has happened in my first year of writing.
Who among us can claim to have made $3,000 in their first quarter of blogging? How many people can claim to have bought two other blogs entirely with money made from their own blog? Now that I've had your attention, I'll stop boasting and tell you how I did it—specifically, how I made six figures from blogging—and how anyone can achieve the same thing if they put in the necessary effort.
Step 1 — Create a Unique Blog
I can't tell you how many times individuals attempt to start blogs that are eerily identical to existing blogs. As time passes, it becomes more and more challenging, but it is still feasible. Make sure your blog's name is distinctive before you launch it. Avoid attempting to capitalize on another person's achievements. Living permanently in the shadow of a blog that is more successful will be the indirect outcome. Who aspires to that? I began by acting in a similar manner. I had no idea that there were already a few blogs aimed at people in their 20s or younger. This made the subsequent step even more challenging.
Step 2 — Marketing / Networking
The second thing I did was connect with other people doing the same thing after developing something original or valuable. Any marketing strategy should include networking with bloggers. It is simpler to develop within a larger group. More individuals can spread the word about your excellent content. Even more blog comments are available to boost your confidence when you first start off. The advantages are incredible.
Building a network of this kind takes time. It took a lot of effort to establish myself even though I was fortunate to join a community that was already established. For at least four months, I literally commented on 45+ sites every single day. This is part of why I think commenting is so important for new bloggers. What took place was absurd. From the first day, I received thousands of visits. I had over 9,000 pageviews in my first full month (January 2020), and scarcely any of those came from search engine traffic. There are very few people who can develop a blog to that type of popularity in the first year, even if I now realize that I'm terrible at expanding SE traffic.
You can see how potent it was from that. Not only did my traffic improve, but so did people's familiarity with my blog. In other words, I started to establish my name.
Step 3 — Monetize
Do you know of a source of knowledge that generates revenue without using advertisements? There are probably a few sources with donor support, but they are not particularly prevalent. You need to sell advertising if you want to make money. There are many different forms of advertising, and what you choose to concentrate on will depend on your skills. I formerly had the capacity to create a ton of stuff in a short amount of time. At this time, I was routinely writing independently for five or six blogs. Although this has long changed, it's still crucial to play to your strengths when selling advertising.
Step 4 — Reinvest Profits
Most people take their earnings and go when they get wealthy. They might spend the money on something they've been dying to get, or they might invest it in the stock market. Both are appropriate responses, but none will advance your development in the same manner. I made the decision to reinvest my gains. I mostly accomplished this by purchasing other blogs.
I was able to significantly boost my monthly revenue thanks to this. In the end, it was the key to my success with internet income. Although I still view myself as a beginner when it comes to making money from a blog, I have had some major successes. I was able to earn enough money as a result to pay for a new car and the maximum Roth IRA contribution I could make in 2020.
I would have severely limited my achievement and only seen pennies of the dollars I have encountered if I had grabbed the money from my primary blogs.
While I do in many ways count myself as fortunate, I am also aware of how much more individuals could succeed in blogging. My experience demonstrates that you CAN make money from blogging. It only requires a willingness to put in the work and the desire to learn something new; little experience is necessary.
